Hawaii Part 2 - Kuaui

Here are some pictures of our adventures in Kuaui! We stayed in a beautiful condo right on the beach on the East side of the Island. It was so wonderful. Kuaui is so calm and relaxing. There are lots of great beaches and lots of hikes and lookouts. We spent most of our time relaxing on the beaches and going on hikes. It was a nice break from our crazy busy week in Oahu where we went from activity to activity to try and get everything in. We had planned a kayak trip around the Napali coast, but the weather wasn't that great and there was a big swell so the trips were cancelled all week. We were pretty disappointed but there were still plenty of beautiful and fun things to do to keep us busy.

My cute husband standing in the condo...

Here is our condo. We were only here a week but sure made it looked lived in!

There was a few BBQs around the condo grounds. So we grilled us some salmon for dinner one night.

The first full day in Kuaui we went to Waimea Canyon - aka 'The Grand Canyon of the Pacific'.  It really is crazy how similar it is to the Grand Canyon. It even has red rock. There were some pretty spectacular views. It was pretty rainy that day though so the view at most of the look out points were blocked by fog. We still got some great photos though.

There were lots of great hikes at the top of the canyon, but we weren't prepared for the intensity of them. So we settled for a pretty little nature walk through the rain forest. If fairies really did exist, this is where they would live for sure on Hawaii.

I was insistent on buying some fruit from one of the local fruit stands.  I wanted to try something unique to Hawaii. The lady said this sour sap was really good and very popular.....
....... I guess my taste in fruit isn't quite the same as the locals'. It really wasn't that good!

We had a great beach right behind our condo. We spent lots of time there in the mornings and evenings exploring and hanging out.

I got stuck climbing on the rocks... the gap was bigger than I thought for my short little legs.

I love camera timers!

Full moon at the beach behind our condo.

We spent a day at Poi'pu beach on the south side of the Island. We had seen plenty of sea turtles while snorkeling, but this was the first one we saw beached. I was pretty excited about it.

There was also a beached Monk Seal.... who happened to be pregnant. They made everyone get out of the water when she went back in. I guess they can get dangerous!
It was a really pretty beach!

Snorkeling with Sea Turtles!

Garhett was craving Costco... can you tell?

One of the days we drove up the coast to check out the north shore and the Napali Coast. It was beautiful up there. We saw lots of cool things like caves and tunnels. Garhett was LOVING it!

This is in the cave. I know you can't really see it very well, but we're there.

The day before we left to head home we flew back to Oahu and stayed in Waikiki. That is one crazy place. I'm glad we didn't stay there, it's super crowded and busy, but it was fun to at least experience for a day. We stopped at Punchbowl Cemetery before we headed to the airport to fly back to Utah.
Punchbowl Cemetery the day before Memorial Day. The youth of the LDS church do a service project and put a flag on each headstone. It was quite the sight to see. We stopped here before we headed to the airport

There was this huge procession of motorcycles that came through. It was pretty awesome to see. Garhett was LOVING this. He took so many pictures of motorcycles and it made him want one even more.

Good bye beautiful Hawaii! We loved you and hope to see you again someday.
